May I introduce: Too Much Posse London

Some month ago I stumbled over an image with a printed hoodie wording „Too Much Posse“ one of the best brand names I’ve ever heard! So I caught up with Ted, the founder of the London-based collective for an interview. Let me introduce: Too Much Posse

Hi Ted, can you tell me first: „Too Much Posse“ what is it all about?

We are a London based lifestyle brand. We started in 2006 with two of us. I personnaly control and run the business. Over the years many other people entered our crew as affiliates, people behind the scenes like designers, DJs, writers etc.
What was your intention to start a brand?

We thought we could do a lot better than some of these brands out there today. We didn’t decide to make toomuchposse! a collective, it just happened. Say no more.

How would you describe the TMP Style?

LONDON.
TMP is going since 2006. In these days it’s not easy to start a streetwear brand. Things have changed, today it feels like everything is available in stores or in the internet. geographical distances are no barrier anymore. Can you tell us how you keep things afloat?

Nothing is hard to find nowadays. We started when so called ‘streetwear’ wasn’t as popular as it is now. But Its the same with all brands, including toomuchposse, but we try to be consistent with our designs and collection and there is also a lifestyle/culture behind the brand… which a lot say they have but at the end of the day they don’t. With a love for youth culture combined with a need for innovative and inspirational design we take inspiration from haute couture to graffiti and represent street culture – nothing more, nothing less. Doin Crime all the Time.

Where do you guys get most of your inspiration from?

Everywhere really, from everything I see, everything I do, everything I eat, everything I fuck.
What is behind the name toomuchposse?

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING.

Have your goals changed since you started the brand?

We were alot younger when we started. It is now a business aswell as a love.
How did your connection to streetwear developed?

We don’t like the term streetwear, a lot of these people doing it are not STREET, but we were put into that catergory from the style of clothes we were producing. I don’t pay attention to a lot of the people within the scene, Aaron Bondaroff caught our eye when we first started when he was running things in nyc but now we just do our own thing.

Your Collection consist of Styles which are both innovative and inspirational. Sometimes with with big prints and also quiet, elegant styles. What is you philosophy in design and how do you judge the present development in streetwear?

I think everything needs to be wearable. No one is wearing really loud stuff anymore, people want logo based clothing or even completely plain clothing. Im sure this will change soon and go back around like it always does, but for the moment we produce garments that are high quality and wearable.

It’s always a small degree between becoming commercial and stay faithful. How do you solve this task?

The stores we deal with are very good to us and we have built close relationships with them. Business is booming in London and loyalty is priceless.
